Foundation Tips
When applying makeup, there are many different aspects to consider, such as shades of eye shadow, lipstick, blush, etc. Perhaps the most important of these is the use of foundation.
Not everyone uses foundation, but for those who do, the correct choice of shade and consistency is as important as corresponding shades of makeup. Many women find it difficult to choose the correct shade of foundation. Too dark or too light can result in a “pancake” look and turn the color of your face into something very far from natural.
Many women choose to avoid this dilemma by simply going to a cosmetic professional to receive assistance in choosing a shade. But for those who are unable or unwilling to take that step, there are a few tips you can follow to assure that you choose the correct shade of foundation and apply it correctly.
Foundation is meant to give your face a smooth finish. It is meant to cover up blemishes and unwanted lines to give your makeup a complete look. Foundations come in different forms, but most often in a cream, power or liquid form. Choose the type that best suits the needs of your face. For a dry complexion, choose a cream foundation. For greasy, oily skin, a powder foundation is most effective.
Your choice of foundation should also have elements that are beneficial to your skin. Only choose foundations with built in moisturizing powder and sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Most department store cosmetic counters have professionals to help you match your shade. If you are looking in a drug store, then take your time and choose a shade that best matches your complexion. Most brands allow you a limited accessibility to the product, so that you can test it on your skin to see if the shade works best for you.
Foundation should be applied with a sponge for the best, even coverage. Be sure to spread the foundation to the neck area below the jaw line to avoid an obvious coverage line. After applying the foundation, take a wash cloth dipped in astringent and pat your face to give it a radiant look. This will take away the matte look of the foundation, while leaving on enough to give the desired coverage.
When applied correctly, foundation gives your face a flawless, smooth look. Take your time in choosing and applying it and your foundation will have the finishing effect you desire. |
